Dare to Dance Seattle invites choreographers and dancers of all ages and skill levels to audition for our upcoming show “Dare to Dance 6,” to be held on June 3-4, 2016 at the Rainer Valley Cultural Center! Now in its sixth year, our annual show provides a unique platform for dance enthusiasts to create, perform, connect, and grow. Whether you are a professional dancer or have never performed on stage before, you can find a place in our show. We welcome dances and dancers of all styles.

AUDITION DETAILS:

Sat Apr 2, between 1-3pm

TPS Studio C (4th floor)

The Armory, Seattle Center

RSVP required – Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page. We will send you a confirmation email within a week with an assigned time period.

CHOREOGRAPHER AUDITION

Choreographers submit their ideas to our show and, once selected, oversee the production and rehearsals for their piece. You don’t have to be experienced – many of us had our first choreography experience at previous Dare to Dance shows and you’ll have a community of other dancer/choreographers to work with. Creativity and commitment are what we look for. Although we require original pieces for our show (pieces that haven’t been performed in public before), you can audition with anything in your repertoire, or even freestyle. However, we do ask that you have a working concept prepared for your Dare to Dance 6 audition. The theme for this show centers around community. What is your culture, your identity, your tribe? And looking beyond yourself, what other individuals or groups have inspired you or helped you grow? We want to hear you tell your story through dance.

In the spirit of community participation, we prefer group dances over solos. You can recruit your own dancers, tap into our dancer pool, or both. (You don’t need to have your dancers fully recruited before the audition.)

DANCER AUDITION

Again, we welcome dancers of all ages and skill levels! After auditioning, dancers get placed with choreographers who need additional dancers. Some flexibility is required, since we don’t know what choices will be available for dancers until later in the process. However, in the past, most dancers found at least one piece to participate in.

You don’t need any special preparation for our dancer audition. We will play a selection of music and the group of dancers will be asked to ‘freestyle’ to that music. We look for enthusiasm and honest expressions, not just skills. If you want to perform a prepared solo during the dancer auditions, please include a request in your RSVP, and we will try to accommodate (time permitting).

FINE PRINT
If you want to participate but cannot make the audition, send us a message to discuss alternatives. Dare to Dance is a non-profit organization. There is no fee for auditioning or participating. There is typically no stipend paid to choreographers and dancers. Dancers are required to participate in a few nights of tech rehearsals during the week before the show; further rehearsal commitment may vary based on your choreographer. “Dare to Dance 6” is partially funded by the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.
