Broadway Performance Hall

The third go-round of the Dare to Dance concept brought us back to Capitol Hill, where our first show was held, but in a much larger venue: Broadway Performance Hall. Quite appropriately, the show was anchored by a Broadway-esque medley that also featured an original song dedicated to Seattle, thus inspiring the show’s theme “Emerald City Rhapsody.” The curtain call song was a further tribute to our beloved city… Watch the video to find out what it is!

Looking back, “Dare to Dance 3” was a key step in our growth both demographically and artistically. When we planned for the show, it felt like the universe was finally coming on board. Great things started falling into place, sometimes to our own amazement. The show was full of firsts:

First time performing two nights. First time holding open auditions and calling for dance submissions from the community. First time highlighting youth artists. There were six youth performers in the show, including 10-year-old Jah Miller who performed a solo, and teenagers Nina Reckinger and Brynn Tweeddale who co-choreographed a duet. First time featuring live singers and musicians on stage, in not one, but two dance pieces. First time with out-of-town artists! Choreographer/lighting designer Beth Meberg flew in from L.A. for her third Dare to Dance show; dancers from Magical Madness Dance Theater traveled from Las Vegas to participate.

“I wasn’t sure at first when I received the submission [from Magical Madness Dance Theater],” recalls Zheng Wang, our Artistic Director. “I thought: ‘I don’t know anything about them! Are they any good?’ Then they sent me a rehearsal video. I got chills!! I told them immediately: ‘We’d be honored to have you.’”
