Rainier Arts Center

Dare to Dance 7: Free to Fly was an exploration of the exuberance and the emotional impact of dance, both of which could be deeply felt in the piece by a group of young dancers from Rainier Dance Center.

The show opened with the sparkle of disco in Lave Machine, followed by the energy of Bachata in Sueños de Bachata. We caught our collective breaths with the intensity of When you Sleep and Losing my Way, only to finish the first act with the splash that started it — a circus of color in I’m Free.

The second act began with a D2D perennial favorite — the blacklight spectacle known as Lights — followed by the graceful duet Work Song. Many of our regular performers exercised their freedom to explore something new to them by joining the Bollywood Medley.

Sometimes freedom comes with a battle, as A Change is Gonna Come demonstrated.  Sometimes it’s a festival, as the final piece Music showed us.
